Uncertainty principle, Shannon-Nyquist sampling and beyond
Donoho and Stark have shown that a precise deterministic recovery of missing information contained in a time interval shorter than the time-frequency uncertainty limit is possible. We analyze this signal recovery mechanism from a physics point of view and show that the well-known Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem, which is fundamental in signal processing, also uses essentially the same mechanis...
متن کاملUncertainty beyond sampling error.
Statistical analysis of research results mainly uses confidence intervals and hypothesis tests to capture the uncertainty rising from our study being on a sample of participants drawn from a much larger population, in which our interest mainly lies. But beyond the issue of sampling variation there are other sources of uncertainty that may be even more important to consider. In measurement, a di...
متن کاملHigh Resolution Quantum Recurrence Spectra: Beyond the Uncertainty Principle
Highly resolved recurrence spectra are obtained by harmonic inversion of quantum spectra of classically chaotic systems and compared in detail to the results of semiclassical periodic orbit and closed orbit theory. Our analysis is sensitive to separate orbits with nearly degenerate recurrence periods and uncovers complex (“ghost”) orbits even when they are hidden behind close-by real orbits. Th...
متن کاملFuzzy Double Variable Sampling Plan under Uncertainty
Double sampling plan is an examination with a certain parameter, so it cannot decide about manufactured products whose portion parameter ( ) is not certain. The main goal of this survey is to introduce double variable plan when is indefinite to examine manufacturing products when concerned characteristics are normally distributed. Plan parameters are achieved by an optimization manner. Sum of ...
متن کاملGerbes and Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle
We prove that a gerbe with a connection can be defined on classical phase space, taking the U(1)–valued phase of Feynman path integrals as Čech 2–cocycles. A quantisation condition on the corresponding 3–form field strength is derived and proved to be equivalent to Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle.
